Advantages and uses of lightweight marble

A natural material that goes beyond its limits of application: the lightweight marble. It is gorgeous, practical, resistant and maintains all the advantages, characteristics, and precious beauty of natural stone.

Thanks to its lightness, the applications of lightweight marble exceed those of normal natural stone. It becomes the perfect solution for all those surfaces that normally could not support the marble weight because of physical reasons and offers designers the opportunity to create new furnishing components, becoming the ideal alternative to wood and other materials.

It is a new covering: a classic material in an innovative form.

The realization of lightweight marble

Lightweight marble is made by combining thin slabs of marble with lighter support panels. The support panels can be of three types: in aluminium honeycomb, in polypropylene or in high density polyurethane foams. Once the sandwich panel is made, we divide it into two other lightweight panels through a diamond wire cutting along the internal marble slab. The panels are calibrated, and then the required finish is applicated.

This is the process through which lightweight marble is obtained, capable of enhancing every space and environment without any limit.

Advantages of the lightweight marble

Lightweight marble is a highly versatile solution that offers several advantages compared to solid slabs, in terms of processing and use. The average weight of a marble slab with a 20 millimeters thickness is about 58 kilograms per square meter while the weight of a lightweight marble slab is 16 kilograms per square meter.

Therefore, this is the solution for those rooms where weight is a determining factor, such as in decoration of surfaces or in furnishing components.

The slabs are flexible but particularly resistant to impacts, this makes them simple and practical to install. This typology of very light stone is ideal for the creation and installation of pre-assembled elements.

Uses of the lightweight marble

Thanks to light weight, flexibility, easy installation and strong impact resistance, lightweight marble slabs are especially indicated, as mentioned above, where the weight reduction it’s a priority.

Lightweight marble is perfect for the aeronautical and naval industries; in these sectors it is particularly used to decorate yachts interiors and cabins. There are no more limits for the creation of elegant spaces.

Another sector that benefits from lightweight marble is the interior design: furniture. The lightweight technique is used to produce tables and doors for furniture components, as well as for the interior design of elevators located in luxurious environments.

Despite its lightness, lightweight marble preserves all the original and rare beauty of natural stonee. This process maintains every shade of colour and every vein continues to move the texture of the stone. The solution of the lightweight marble simply offers a new opportunity to use a natural material that has always had application limits given its weight.

Today, thanks to lightweight marble, it is possible to cover every surface with a unique and natural stone and turn it into something fabulous and luxurious.
